About the Investigations

We provide non-invasive diagnostic tests such as Doppler Ultrasound, Plethysmography and Duplex Ultrasound Scanning which provide essential information for the management of patients with cerebral, abdominal and peripheral vascular disorders.

Ankle brachial systolic pressures and toe pressures, at rest and following a standardised exercise provide an accurate and objective measure of arterial insufficiency in the lower limbs.  This should be the first investigation to assess for peripheral arterial insufficiency.  Duplex ultrasound scanning should be performed if the ankle brachial indices are abnormal.

CT Angiography or formal angiography should usually only be performed with intention to treat.
